Equipping For Battle With God's Word

 Equipped For Battle

A soldier who goes to war does not go without his or her proper protection. Similarly, how can we as Christians who are constantly at war with the devil not be consistently found properly dressed for battle. The difference here is that we do not need literal swords and guns to fight our battle but rather our spiritual self is constantly equipped to withstand the darts that the enemy throws at us. That armory we must constantly wear consists of the following:

  1. Belt Of Truth: No longer loined with the lies of our past. Rather, we must belt up with the truth, the Word of God about who He is and what He has done for us.

  2. Breastplate of righteousness: just as a breastplate protects the vital organs of the body such as the heart, the great vessels, and the lungs, so also should we figuratively keep our heart guarded spiritually at all times. The moment we let that guard down our heart becomes vulnerable to attack

  3. Shoes of the gospel: Protected feet have the capability to match forward. Therefore, protected feet can follow Christ wherever He leads

  4. Shield of Faith: A shield helps to block off targeted attacks. Spiritually, we can evade the darts of the wicked. By faith we trust that God protects us daily from the seen and unseen attacks of the enemy

  5. Helmet of Salvation: The helmet shields one of the most important parts of the body, the head which holds the brain.  We must shield our thoughts and mind from corruption, deceit, deception, and evil thoughts.

  6. Sword of the Spirit: The sword of the spirit is the word of God. There is power in the word of God and that is our most powerful weapon of attack, Knowing the promises that the Lord has for us is vital to attacking the enemy. However, we can only use the word that we know so we ought to study the word daily, meditate on it, repeat it, believe it, and speak it.

  7. Prayer: Consistent prayer keeps us in constant communication with the one who knows the beginning from the end and who has never failed and will never fail.

Equipping ourselves with the full armor of God is essential for consistent victory in Christ Jesus.

Strength In The Word of the Lord

The word of God is the bread of life (John 6:35). Bread provides the sustenance that fuels the body physically. Similarly, the Word of God is the nutrition we need to remain strong and sound spiritually. However, to know God’s Word is to know God personally. To know God personally is to become more acquainted with who He is and what He stands for. Just as hearing a material at school for the first time is not enough to have it memorized, the Word of God must be meditated upon regularly to keep it afresh and store it in our hearts ready for use at any time. When we store the Word of God as a source of our strength we can apply that Word to whatever situation we may find yourself. If we can depend on God’s word at all times we will find strength, breakthrough, and divine intervention through the Word.
